Schools & Tutors Data Processing Terms

Scope

These terms describe how Academy handles student data for teachers, tutors, schools and districts that use Academy with students. A school or district that needs a signed data processing agreement should email us.

Roles

For student data a school provides, the school remains responsible for its own legal obligations, for example FERPA and any state student-privacy law. BAMS processes that data only to provide Academy to the school and does not sell it or use it for advertising.

Parental approval

Academy requires a parent to approve a teacher's access to a child's work.

Subprocessors, deletion and breach

Student data is processed by providers that run the platform: cloud hosting, payment processing for parents, and an AI model provider for AI features that a parent has enabled. A parent or school can ask us to delete student data and we will do so within 45 days. If student data is exposed we will notify the affected school or parent without undue delay.
